As Blast All Over Sox in Series Opener

You know, I’m getting a little sick and tired of writing Wake is gonna have to wait for another day to get Win #200.  Sadly, Wake is gonna have to wait another day for Win #200.  Boo.

Wake got himself into trouble, along with some bad defense in the 4th.  The Sox were already down 1-2 and the inning just got out of hand in the 4th.  Suzuki walked and then Sizemore homered.  Weeks struck out, but the ball got away from Salty and he reached at 1st.  Crisp walked and then Matsui doubled to score Weeks and Crisp.  Then, Willingham homered.  By the end of the inning, the Sox were down 8-1.

The Sox bats gave us a wee bit of hope in the bottom of the 4th when Pedroia and Ortiz hit back to back homeruns.  In the 5th, the Sox added on another run to be trailing 8-4.

Atchison took over for Wake after the 4th and pitched the 5th, 6th and 7th innings.  All in all, he looked pretty good.  He gave up a run in the 7th when Pennington doubled to score Suzuki.  Albers came out in relief in the 8th.  Albers continued his August struggles.  Albers gave a double, a single and then a 2 RBI double to Allen.  Albers gave up another 2 RBI double and then an RBI single.  By the end of Albers inning, the Sox were trailing 13-4.  Matt Albers needed to figure out and the fix whatever is broken with him.

In the 9th, the game had a shimmer of happy: Darnell McDonald pitching on a mound.  I know I shouldn’t like a position player pitching because it means the game is completely out of control, but well I do.  I absolutely adore it.  DMac has joined the ranks of Sox position players taking the mound and taking one for the team.  DMac started out pretty rough, walking the first two batters he saw.  He then got a fly out and a ground out.  DMac gave up a wall scraping double to Matsui to score two runs.  In my opinion, Aviles should have been able to field that ball.  In my opinion, Aviles should also stop playing the outfield.  DMac got the last out and the Sox were on to the 9th. Also, DMac’s fastball ramped up to 90 MPH.  You go DMac!  Reddick scored one run in the 9th on a RBI double, but there was no 10 run rally in the books for the Sox.
