Alex Rodriguez Practices at First Without Glove

Right or wrong, Alex Rodriguez is going to find himself heavily scrutinized during his redemption tour heading into the new season. And, naturally, his latest misstep didn’t go unnoticed among the critics.

Friday, the New York Yankees third baseman lined up across the diamond alongside Mark Teixeira to practice taking groundballs at first base. It was his first time fielding the position, so asking the guy to up to speed would be a stretch.

However, ringing his first baseman’s glove to the field with him should be expected.

“I’ve got to find it first,” Rodriguez told reporters.

Apparently, the mitt was found atop a locker by a clubhouse attendant. That’s right, Rodriguez, who sat out all of 2014, but is expected to back up Chase Headley at third base, is taking grounders at first in anticipation of playing some at that position as well.

But don’t worry, gang…”A-Rod” is taking it all in stride.

“[It’s] too quick to tell,” Rodriguez responded when asked about his progress. “But I am anxious to learn.”

“I think he was paying attention and trying to learn,” Girardi added. “He’s never taken balls over there, he’s never seen what a bunt defense looks like from over there, and that’s going to take some time.”

Stay tuned.
