Happy Friday All! Since it's Friday, it's time to check in on the AL East standings:
It's another week where the Sox are still sitting on top of the AL East standings. In the last week the Sox took series from the Diamondbacks and Astros and lost the first game of the series to the Royals. The Sox were just clinging to a 1/2 game lead this time last week, but while they kept winning the Rays lost a game or two and allowed them to get a teeny, tiny little bit of breathing room.
This upcoming week the Sox finish a 4 game series with the Royals and then head to Toronto to play the Blue Jays. The Royals are much bigger and better competition than they used to be, so while it would be great to win the series, I'd be happy if the Sox were able to split the series. The Blue Jays are sitting on the bottom of the AL East, but that team still has a lot of talent, so they always scare me.
The Sox have been on top of the AL East for most of the season and have become a team known for their late inning heroics. The Sox came from behind in both of the wins in the Astros series. The Sox also benefitted from the Peavy trade when he got his first win in a Sox uniform last week. Stephen Drew has also been on fire lately, hitting above 400 since Iglesias was traded to Detroit. The Sox still have issues that need to be addressed, but they have still been able to get wins. This team has just been fun to watch.
