In a game that was filled with often times more spats than actual hockey being played, the Columbus Blue Jackets lost to the Washington Capitals by the score of 5-3.
Highlights:
The Good, The Bad and The Ugly
The Good: Jack Johnson
Making his first appearance this year in the “good” section we find Jack Johnson. Johnson was an absolute force last game and that is a term that I don’t normally throw around lightly. Johnson carried the puck in when necessary, helped put the puck on net when necessary and found himself pinching when necessary. A little bit of everything added up to be a recipe for success for Johnson. Often times seen as overmatched by his opponent he was able to stand tall and found himself at a +15 at the end of the night in the shot differential battle. Johnson had one point on the evening and played a manageable 25 or so minutes, giving him all the opportunities to succeed defensively is a step in the right direction for a team that will sorely be lacking in defensive scoring in the short term future.
The Bad: The Refs
Early in this affair the referees lost control of this game and it only escalated until it reached a fever pitch for most players. The Capitals now find themselves as division rivals and because of that the NHL should probably be circling games like this on their calendar to hopefully prevent more injuries. Unfortunately they left things up to the players and throughout the night they policed themselves to the tune of eighty total penalty minutes. Always next game right refs?
The Ugly: Goaltending
No one will say it out loud but Bobrovsky looked like a player just coming off IR and was slow moving to a fair amount of pucks. His save percentage was not very good on the evening and seemed to shake off the rust when the Jackets needed it the most at the end of the game. We all have seen a better Bobrovsky, I hope with time this season that Bob can go back to being the Bob we know and love. The fans deserve that sliver of hope.
