9/13 Game 2 Recap: Tigers Trounce Tribe, Trevor’s Try at Taming Troubles Thwarted

Player of the Game

Mike Aviles lead the lackluster Tribe with 2 hits tonight. That’s all it took to be the best player of the game for the Indians.

Feathers Up

The Indians took advantage of Randy Wolf in the first inning with handful of base hits and a bases loaded walk to grab an early 2-0 lead. Unfortunately they couldn’t build upon this quick start.

Feathers Down

Trevor Bauer reverted to form in the 3rd inning when he struggled to find the strike zone and his pitch count began to climb. J.D. Martinez eventually roped a 2 out single into right to knot the game at 2 apiece. The 4th inning didn’t get any better for Bauer. After a miscommunication between Aviles and Santana lead to a free lead-off man, an RBI double by Dixon Machado put the Tigers up 3-2. A walk and a single later and the Indians were down 5-3 and Bauer’s night was over after just 3 innings of work. I believe Bauer’s future in an Indians’ uniform becomes more and more uncertain with every short outing he has at the end of the season.

On the flip side, Tito benched Michael Brantley, Jason Kipnis, Abraham Almonte and Lonnie Chisenhall the game after the team climbed back up to .500. The lack of offense allowed Randy Wolf to throw a 50 pitch first inning and allow just 2 runs. While the offense is certainly to blame, the poor coaching decision is as well.

Final Score: Cleveland Indians 2 Detroit Tigers 9

Scoreboard Watch: New York won 5-0 over Toronto. Minnesota shutout the White Sox 7-0. Texas trounced Oakland 14-2. Houston came back in the 9th to beat the Angels 5-3.

On Deck: The Indians will begin a crucial series with the Kansas City Royals tomorrow. Carlos Carrasco squares off against Edinson Volquez.
