7/24 Recap: Surprise!!! No Run Support for Kluber

Roster Update: Prior to the game, Jesus Aguilar was called up from AAA for the first time this season. To make room, Kyle Crockett was sent back to Columbus. Crockett allowed a home run in one inning last night and has retired just four of his last seven batters faced, allowing two to score.

Aguilar will be coming up specifically for the next three games against Chicago where his right handed bat will be useful against three left handed starters. He currently leads the International League with 66 RBI and holds a slash line of .255/.318/.410. He has been particularly hot since June 6th, raising his average from .233 with seven home runs and five doubles. Most recently he had home runs in consecutive games against Louisville on July 20th and 21st. Aguilar was the starting first baseman on the International League All-Star team.

Player of the Game

Congratulations go to Ryan Webb, who ran away with tonight’s Player of the Game honors. All he had to do was pitch one inning in relief, giving up a single. Tonight’s player of the game marks the lowest score any player has needed to win this season.

Feathers Up

Tribe fans have something to look forward to tomorrow as they approach the unveiling of the new Larry Doby statue at Progressive Field. Even if the expected large crowd doesn’t see much run support against Chris Sale, at least they will at least have a mini replica statue to remember the day.

Feathers Down

Kluber is always tough, but the White Sox stole a run early tonight when Alexei Ramirez singled to start the inning and stole second. While Yan Gomes throw was in time to catch Ramirez, Jason Kipnis never caught the ball and Ramirez slid in safely. He then went to third on a ground ball that otherwise would have been a ground ball double play and scored on a wild pitch.

It keeps getting harder and harder to write unique things about Kluber’s starts as each time out he pitches well (despite his 8th inning woes) and manages to lose thanks to little to no run support. Today it was the no side of little as Jose Quintana shut out the Tribe despite an almost completely right handed lineup.

Final Score: Cleveland Indians 0  Chicago White Sox 6

On Deck: Carlos Carrasco finds himself in his third incredible pitching match-up in his past four games (Dallas Keuchel and Johnny Cueto were his recent opponents) as he faces the best left hander in baseball, Chris Sale. This, the third game of the four game set, will start at 7:10 PM in Cleveland.
