Player of the Game
Brandon Moss went 2-4 with a HR a double and three RBI in key situations in the game: First by putting the Indians ahead by one in the 3rd and another by putting the game away in the 4th.
Feathers Up
The Indians hitters were very patient with Leake in the 2nd as they walked three times; one of which on a four-pitch walk to Michael Bourn with the bases loaded, tying the game at one. Coming into the game, Leake had only walked 13 all season and only 3 in the month of May.
The hottest hitter in baseball, Jason Kipnis, hit a two-strike flare base-hit to center scoring Jose Ramirez and moving everybody up one base, giving the Tribe a 2-1 lead at the time. He also added another RBI when he singled up the middle in the seventh, scoring Roberto Perez from third.
After a Brandon Phillips leadoff double in the third, Carlos Carrasco bounced back to strike out Zack Cosart and Joey Votto on very good sliders- un-hittable sliders actually.
He finished the game strong, striking out the side in the 6th and finishing the night with seven strikeouts. He only walked two while allowing four hits and earning a .043 WPA
With the wind blowing in on a cold, raw night, Brandon Moss sent high thigh-high fastball out of the ballpark to right center putting the Indians back ahead 3-2. It was his seventh HR on the season and third in the month of May. He also delivered a two-out, two-run double in the 4th putting the Indians up 5-2 and giving Carrasco a comfortable lead. Much like the pitch he hit out of the ballpark, it was a fastball low and inside that he pulled down the right-field line. With three RBI’s on the night, he took over the team lead from Michael Brantley with 27.
Perez threw out two would-be base stealers: one in the 4 and 5th innings. He also hit a triple down the right field line in the seventh when Jay Bruce tried to make a diving spectacular catch to his left and the ball got by him and went all the way to the wall.
Feathers Down
Carrasco had a high pitch count through the first three innings as the Reds made him throw 63 pitches by working the count. He would have escaped the third without allowing any runs but David Murphy took a bad route to the ball hit by Todd Frazier in left-center field, allowing Phillips to score from second on the double to tie the game.
Final Score: Cleveland Indians 7 – Cincinnati Reds 3
On Deck: Corey Kluber looks to continue his dominance of late as he will face Anthony DeSclafani tomorrow afternoon at 4:05pm. The Indians will try to win another series and two in a row- again. It does not look as if Yan Gomes will be back until Sunday.
