5/19 Recap: BAUER CAN WIN WITHOUT PERFECTION

NHL

 Player of the Game

Though not quite as dominating as Corey Kluber‘s last 2 outings, Trevor Bauer earned his paycheck today by throwing 7.1 innings and limiting the White Sox to just one run. Bauer gave up just 4 hits and punched out 7 in his solid performance.

Feathers Up

The Indians manufactured their first run early tonight. Jason Kipnis took advantage of a fielding mishap by Chicago right fielder, Avisail Garcia, with what was ruled a triple. He would score just 2 batters later on a Michael Brantley sacrifice fly.

The Indians played small ball tonight offensively, scoring just enough runs to claim victory. Kipnis scored both runs, the second coming from a Jose Ramirez double in the fifth after Kipnis reached on a single.

Apparently wanting to skip the small ball, Brandon Moss added an insurance run in the 8th by taking the ball deep to right field. Moss now has 6 home runs on the season.

The Indians bullpen has seen very limited action the last 3 games, pitching a total of 2.2 innings. This is quite impressive, given that one of those 3 games went into extra innings.

Feathers Down

Trevor Bauer broke down in the 4th after he retired the first 11 Chicago batters of the game. He gave up a two-out double to Jose Abreau, and struggled to get the last out. A single and 2 walks later, Bauer kept the damaged to a minimum 1 run, leaving the bases loaded.

Final Score: Cleveland Indians 3 – Chicago White Sox 1

On Deck: Shaun Marcum makes his second appearance of the season as he faces off against Carlos Rodon in the 3rd game of the series. First pitch is at 8:10 in Chicago.
