New York Yankees Embrace Mustached Lifestyle

They’ve got a long way to go before anyone will confuse them with the 1972 Oakland A’s, but if the New York Yankees keep winning…we might have to start referring to them as the second coming of “The Mustache Gang”.

During a mid-April series against the Tampa Bay Rays, Brett Gardner stopped shaving his upper lip. And as the wins started adding up (the Yankees are currently 14-4 since the outfielder put the razor on the shelf)…so did the number of teammates willing to adopt the look of former New York greats Don Mattingly, Thurman Munson and Ron Guidry.

“Pretty much everybody is on board,” the outfielder said of the team’s womb brooms. “I know it might not look good, but it is kind of a reminder that every time we see each other, that everybody is all in.”

Everybody, including, you guessed it…Alex Rodriguez.

“I’m trying,” the slugger added, “but it’s going to take me a long time.”

“The recent play of the New York Yankees further proves what we have already shown time and time again, that adding a mustache increases one’s athletic ability by an average of 39.3%, and this is before taking into account any synergistic effects,” president of The American Mustache Institute Adam Paul Causgrove told The Hall.  “We applaud the Yankees taking advantage of the lone legal performance enhancing facial supplement and look forward to the day where all athletes perform to their peak handsome abilities.”

Unofficially, about 20 players are taking part in the mustache movement, including a couple of guys who were part of the Boston Red Sox’s heavily bearded 2013 World Series championship squad.

“I think my wife hates the mustache more than the beard — and she did not like the beard,” Andrew Miller said. “It’s a lose-lose proposition for me, but she can live with it. If facial hair can be a theme that leads to the World Series, I’m on board.”
