Tampa Bay Rays Righty Rescues Pooch

For the first time in seven years, the Tampa Bay Rays Opening Day starter will not be named David Price of James Shields. Also, with Alex Cobb getting the nod, it also makes this the thirteenth straight year the guy taking the bump for the team’s opener is 30 years old or younger.

In case you were wondering, Tanyon Sturtze was 31 when he took the mound on Opening Day 2002…but that’s neither here nor there.

To say Cobb is having a great week would be an understatement. But it probably have nothing to do with being picked to take on the defending American League East champion Baltimore Orioles April 6.

As Cobb was leaving the team’s Port Charlotte, Florida training, he spotted a dog wandering near a high traffic area. So, dude did what any of us would do, he snatched up the four-legged fella and put out an all-points bulletin.

Unfortunately, no one responded.

Now, almost a week later, the pitcher has called off the search for the pooch’s owner(s) and decided to make him his own…officially adopting “Oscar”.

Now, if you don’t mind, I need to take a minute…it’s getting a little dusty up in here.
