Jose Canseco has done plenty of questionable things throughout his life, but, most of the time…he’s only hurt himself.
Saturday, he did this.

Meet Juiced, one of three pet tortoises (the other two are named Roid and Rage) shared by Canseco and his longtime fiancé Leila Knight. But before you get upset, don’t worry…that paint job is okay. The former slugger quickly informed his more than half-a-million Twitter followers that the newly painted Iron Man lookalike was decked out in “pet safe nail polish”.
Either way, it didn’t take long for the internet to respond.

@ModelLeila @JoseCanseco i know, it doesn't matter if it's not toxic, the shell needs to breathe

Here’s the thing. I hate, hate, hate how everyone flexes their Twitter muscles every time Canseco does something they think is silly, but, this time, they might be right.
Emphasis on “might”.
According to the Tortoise Group (yup…there is such a thing), you should never paint your tortoise’s shell. Basically, the shell is tied in with how the tortoise breathes and, you guessed it, by painting the shell, you’re essentially suffocating the thing.
But it’s okay…it would appear Canseco already has another plan up his sleeve.
Looking for another desert tortoise to join our clan . Must be at least 100 pounds . Disneyland for animals in @ModelLeila our back yard

Now, I only bring up Canseco’s latest petscapades so I can mention something that is a good use of his time. It was recently announced that the former slugger and Knight would be appearing in a feature-length independent film called “Get Well” that is currently being shot outside Charlotte, North Carolina.
The movie follows a bowling alley employee who is just trying to make it day-to-day…all the while hiding the fact that he is a sick, twister killer. According to Trix Donovan, the movie’s director, Canseco plays washed up movie director JD Ferraro.
And how did Donovan secure the onetime “Surreal Life” cast member and contestant on “The Celebrity Apprentice” for the movie? Turns out…it was pretty easy.
“I emailed his representative and sent him the script. He read it and wanted in,” Donovan told The Hall. “Both Jose and Leila have been very gracious about re-tweeting and spreading the word about the movie.”
This isn’t Canseco’s first foray into film. Just this past year, he had a small role in “Piranha Sharks” and before that was the subject of an award-winning documentary. Canseco is expected to be in the Tar Heel State to shoot his scenes for “Get Well” the last weekend of March.
