So…you wanna be a mascot?
Apparently Sluggerrr, the Kansas City Royals’ mascot, took part in some off-the-field activities a while back and, well, I’m not sure what the full story is…but, according to Deadspin, this is what we know.
- Tipster sends tweet to Deadspin with a NSFW picture of Sluggerrr getting a lap dance.
- Another guys sees that picture, claims it was from a 2005 bachelor party. Which makes sense because the blue sleeved look was abandoned post-2005.
- Then, naturally, comes the “this wasn’t supposed to get out like this” tweet and word that the Sluggerrr pictured isn’t Sluggerrr anymore.
- Oh, then this dude posts a pretty awesome defense of the mascot.
Okay…in case you didn’t click through, here’s the picture.
Alright, deep breath. Would it shock you to know that this isn’t the first time a mascot exercised poor judgment? Would you find it shocking to know that this isn’t even the first time Sluggerrr has run afoul of the law?
According to a 2010 lawsuit, a fan was in the stands when, well, Sluggerrr “climbed atop the third base dugout and started shooting hotdogs into the stands from an air gun.”
And before you question what injuries could be sustained by a flying wiener. The victim, who suing the Royals for more than $25,000, k for negligence and battery was, allegedly, hit in the eye and left with a detached retina and the development of cataracts.
In 2011, the court made it’s ruling.
“The risk of being hit in the face by a hot dog is not a well-known incidental risk of attending a baseball game,” the court ruled. “Consequently, a plaintiff may not be said to have consented to, and voluntarily assumed, the risk by attending the game.”
And, yes, I might have just brought up the stripper and a court case in an effort to get you to watch the following.
