Backes says the Blues need to make changes or it’s “insanity”

Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. Insanity, meet the St. Louis Blues. It’s really no mystery that Blues fans have to be insane to continually support a team that crashes out early in the playoffs year after year, but one would hope those in charge of making roster decisions aren’t as equally disturbed.

David Backes thinks the team needs to make some changes or, in his words, it’d be insanity.

Backes’ statements, as seen over on The Score:

“I do expect change as far as we didn’t get a job done and there needs to be some change or else you’re buying into complete insanity, which is doing the same thing and expecting different results. I do expect change to happen. On what scale and what realms, that is Army’s baby and that’s what his position does.

I do expect that the same 23-25 faces won’t be back. In a typical year, that means it’s four or five guys (leaving). If it’s that number or maybe a couple more, that wouldn’t be surprising to me. Who that would be is speculative at best in my book.”

Backes has some sound reasoning. The Blues have already brought back their coaching staff, so the definition of insanity would be to bring back all of the roster players as well. Aside from the usual tinkering which occurs over the summer, the Blues need to make a more significant change (or changes) in order to restore some sort of mental stability.
