Report: Blues will likely keep Ken Hitchcock

According to a recent report from Sportsnet, Ken Hitchcock isn’t going anywhere. The St. Louis Blues were expected to make big changes after crashing out of the playoffs in the first round, but all signs are pointing to the head coach remaining in place.

Via Sportsnet:

The St. Louis Blues have yet to announce an official decision, but barring any unforeseen circumstances, Ken Hitchcock will return as head coach, reports Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman.

Comments from GM Doug Armstrong pointed to this outcome even though the Blues apparently spoke with Mike Babcock.

Armstrong:

“Ken and I are going to keep working towards having good communication and making sure we’re both in the same vein, taking the same path as we move forward. It’s something that we’re working on every day, we’re trying to do it behind closed doors and away from public scrutiny. I’m aware that people want answers, but fortunately for us, we have a strong ownership group that understands that this is a process and we’re going to make use of our time.”

Many Blues fans won’t be happy if Hitchcock returns as they’ll believe it means the team won’t make any changes. That may not be the case. In fact, it can’t be the case. It’d be acceptable to bring Hitchcock back as the coach, but only if it means big changes are coming to this team’s core out on the ice.

The current core of Blues players have already weeded out a few coaches. At what point will the organization stick with a coach and accept the problem may be on the bench as opposed to behind it?
