Do you miss Roman Polak? Judging by all of the fans on Twitter stating that fact as the Blues demolished the Maple Leafs 6-1 on Saturday, it’s clear a large percentage wish Polak and his door still resided in St. Louis. It turns out that the Blues missed him too.
STLToday reports that the Blues talked to the Leafs prior to the trade deadline about a deal involving Polak. It sounds like the Blues had a bit of seller’s regret after sending Polak to Toronto for Carl Gunnarsson. That statement isn’t a slam on Gunnarsson, but it appears the Blues realized they were missing some size and physicality on defense following the trade.
Obviously a trade was never made and the Blues instead went after Robert Bortuzzo and Zbynek Michalek. Still, you have to wonder what would have happened had the Blues reached a deal for their old defenseman. Would Polak have been interested in returning to St. Louis?
“It would be kind of awkward if they bring me back. It’s kind of like, ‘Why did they trade me in the first place? Now they’re trying to get me back?’ (But) yeah, that would be great. I would love it because they have a great team and I think they’re going to do some damage in the playoffs.”
Fans would have loved it too, if not for the product on the ice but for the story of Polak returning to the Blues.
