Sox Lose on a Walk Off Walk

The Red Sox headed into the second game of the series with the Giants with Jake Peavy vs. Ryan Vogelsong.  Peavy once again pitched well, but did not get much run support so that the game would be tied late.  The game also had the major league debut of Xander Bogaerts.  Unfortunately Bogaerts wouldn't do much with his debut going 0 for 3 before being replaced by Stephen Drew in the lineup.

The Red Sox took the lead in the 1st when the Sox had the bases loaded and no outs.  The Sox were not able to capitalize as much as we would have liked, but they did push one run across the plate when Carp hit a sac fly to score Ells.  Sox 1-0.  Vogelsong got out of the inning without any more damage done when he got Nava to fly out to shallow left and then Bogaerts to groundout to 2nd to end the inning.  The Sox grabbed another run in the 3rd when Victorino hit a solo HR to left.  Sox 2-0.  Peavy was pitching well, however he kept playing with fire.  Peavy gave up his first run in the 5th when he gave up an RBI triple to Arias.  Sox 2-1.  Peavy took the mound in the 6th and gave up a leadoff double to Belt.  Peavy got 2 outs and then Farrell came out to get him.  Peavy clearly did not want to leave the game and was swearing on his way off the mound.  Peavy's pitching line for the night was 92 pitches, 5.2 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 BB and 4 Ks.

Breslow came out to relieve Peavy in the 6th and with one pitch got the out to end the inning.  Breslow pitched a scoreless 7th inning as well before handing the ball over to Junichi Tazawa in the 8th.  Tazawa would end up giving up the game tying run in the run when he gave up 2 singles and then an RBI sac fly to Victorino.  Victorino tried to throw out Scutaro at home, but the throw would not get there in time.  Game tied 2-2.  Franklin Morales would take the mound in the 9th.  Morales got a K to start the inning, but then things went wrong from there.  Morales gave up a single, a walk and then a hit by pitch to have the bases loaded with 2 outs.  Farrell took Morales out of the game and brought in Villarreal.  I find it mind boggling that Villarreal was brought into the game in this situation since he is known for having issues throwing strikes and walking people. The game ended when Villarreal walked Marco Scutaro on 4 pitches.
