Was Plunking ARod Victory Enough?

The Sox and Yanks came into the rubber game and the Sox would need to win the game in order to stay 2 game up in the standings to the Rays.  The Sox were sending Ryan Dempster and the Yanks had CC Sabathia.  Both starting pitchers have struggles as of late and the same would be true last night, but the most dramatics would be about Dempster and ARod.  Dempster ended up hitting ARod in the second inning.  Those dramatic would not fuel the Sox to a win though and they have now lost their 3rd straight series.

The Sox jumped out to a quick lead in the 1st when Gomes hit an RBI sac fly and then Salty hit an RBI single.  Sox 2-0.  In the top of the 2nd, ARod came to the plate.  Dempster threw behind him with the first pitch and then with the 4th pitch he plunked ARod.  Both benches were warned, but Dempster was not ejected.  Dempster would say after the game that he didn't intentionally hit ARod, but I don't think he even believes himself.  Girardi was livid and was ejected as a result.  Unfortunately after plunking ARod, Dempster gave up the lead.  He allowed a Nunez RBI single and an Overbay RBI sac fly.  Sox 2-2.  The Yanks took the lead in the 3rd when ARod hit an RBI sac grounder to score Ichiro.  Sox 2-3.  The Sox were able to tie up the game in 3rd inning when Papi hit an RBI sac grounder to score Victorino.  The Sox took the lead in the 4th when Drew hit an RBI sac fly and then Middlebrooks hit a solo HR.  The Sox added on one more run in the 5th when Sabathia issued an RBI walk to Nava with the bases loaded.  Sox 6-3.

The Sox seemed like they were rolling towards a victory, however the 6th inning would be their undoing.  Dempster issued a leadoff HR to ARod and you could see ARod laughing as he rounded first base.  Dempster then proceeded to load the bases with only one out.  Farrell went out to get him and Drake Britton was in the game.  With the first batter that Britton faced, he ended up giving up the lead.  Britton gave up a bases clearing triple to Brett Gardner to take all the excitement out of the game for the fans in the stands.  Sox 6-7.  Britton got one out, but them gave up a hit to Cano.  Britton was out of the inning and Brandon Workman was in.  Workman got the 3rd out and was out of the inning.  Workman took the mound in the 7th and while he gave up a single to ARod, he got 2 outs before handing the ball over to Franklin Morales.  Morales gave up an RBI single to Mark Reynolds to give the Yanks a 8-6 lead.  Morales took the mound in the 8th, but would not finish it.  Morales hit Gardner with a pitch and then gave up an infield single to Ichiro.  With one out, Morales was out and Tazawa was in the game.  Tazawa got the 2 outs he needed and was out of the inning.  Rubby De La Rosa pitched the 9th inning and gave the Yanks another insurance run.  De La Rosa gave up an RBI single to Stewart to have the Yanks leading 9-6.  In the bottom of the 9th, the Sox were able to get the tying run to the plate, but were unable to get anyone home.
