Sox Rally Late to Beat the Tribe

It was a cold and rainy day at Fenway Park, but the good news was that Jon Lester was on the mound for the Red Sox.  Lester would end up with a no decision, but he pitched well enough to keep it close and to give us a chance to win in the late innings.

Lester started the game off giving up a run in the 1st when he gave up an RBI double to Swisher.  Sox 0-1.  In the bottom of the 2nd the Sox tied the game with a Ciriaco RBI single.  Sox 1-1.  It wouldn't stay tied for long though when Lester gave the lead right back in the top of the 3rd.  Lester gave up RBI singles to both Cabrera and Santana to have the Indians leading 3-1.

In the 4th the Sox grabbed a run back when Iglesias hit a double and Nava ended up scoring on a throwing error from Raburn.  In the 6th with Kazmir finally out of the game, the Sox were able to tie the game up when Gomes hit a sac fly to score Iggy.  Sox 3-3.  Unfortunately, the Sox would end up giving a run back to the Indians when Lester threw a wild pitch that bounced off Ross' gear and Aviles scored from 3rd.  Sox 3-4.  Lester would be done for the night.  He pitched well enough, but if his offense didn't end up rallying he'd be looking down the line of a loss.  Lester's line for the night was 124 pitches, 7 IP, 10 H, 4 R, 1 BB and 8 Ks.

Tazawa pitched a scoreless 8th and in the bottom of inning the Sox bats got back to work.  Mike Carp came in to pinch hit and tied the game with an RBI double.  Sox 4-4.  The Sox weren't done yet, it was followed by an RBI double by Pedey to take the lead.  The Indians intentionally walked Papi and then unintentionally walked Napoli to load the bases.  Nava came to the plate and hit a bloop wind blown single to score Pedey and Papi.  Sox 7-4.  Andrew Bailey came into the game and allowed a leadoff single, but then got the next 3 outs to grab his 6th save of the season.  The Sox were able to rally when they needed to and much of it was thanks to the production from the bottom of the lineup.  Iglesias and Ciriaco both hit 3 for 4 on the night.  They were the spark that kept this lineup in the game.

There was a lot of water during this rainy rainy game, but by the end of the game it was definitely DIRTY.
