Clay Buchholz took the mound for the Red Sox and continued his dominant ways against the Blue Jays. He easily had his best outing to date and along with Daniel Nava led the Sox to their first win in June.
Clay was just wheeling and dealing. He was amazing. He looked like that “ace in the making” that we were waiting to see. His line for the night was 108 pitches, 8 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 7 Ks. He was just spectacular. Clay’s curveball was working something fierce last night and he used it as his strike out pitch on numerous occasions. Buchholz only gave up 2 runs and those were on solo HRs. He gave up a solo HR to Escobar in the 3rd inning and then gave up a solo HR to Cooper in the 7th. Buchholz just looked in control the whole game and thought it was fantastic he went 8 innings strong.

The Red Sox offense also got it done last night. In the 2nd inning, the Sox got on the board with a solo HR from David Ortiz. It was Papi’s 13th HR of the year. In the 3rd, the Sox got their second run with a double by Nava and then an RBI single from Gonzo. In the 6th, the Sox had the bases loaded and no outs. In the end, they were only able to get one run with a forceout from Salty.
The Sox blew the game open in the 7th. Perez replaced Alvarez and it did not go well for the Jays. With 2 outs, the Sox went on a scoring spree. Podsednik hits an RBI single to score Sweeney. Sox 4-1. Nava hit an RBI double to score Scotty P. Sox 5-1. Gonzo followed with an RBI single to score Nava. Sox 6-1. The final run was scored by Papi with an RBI single. Sox 7-1. I am in love with the Sox scoring 4 runs with 2 outs and putting the game away.
Clay gave up the solo HR in the 7th and pitched a scoreless 8th inning before Scott Atchison came out in relief in the 9th. Atchison, as usual, has himself a scoreless inning and the Sox went on to an easy win. Scott Atchison’s ERA is a whoppin’ 0.89 ERA.
The Water is Dirty. The Sox are tied for 4th place with the Jays. If we take this series from the Jays, we can truly move ourselves up and out of the basement in the AL East.
