Doubront Pitches a Gem & Sox Still Lose

The Red Sox went back to their losing to the O’s ways last night.  Felix Doubront took the mound for the Sox and probably had his best outing of the season, however he still got a loss for his efforts.

Doubront pitched 6 strong innings in the loss last night.  He struck out 9 batters during his outing and just looked great.  His only real mistake in the 2nd was a walk followed by a 2 run HR to Tolleson.  Sox 0-2.  After that Doubront basically looked unhittable, unfortunately the damage had been done.  Franklin Morales came out in the 7th and gave up a hit and a walk while getting an out.  Matt Albers came out in relief and got 2 Ks to get out of the inning.  Matt Albers came out in the 8th inning and could not continue his streak of fantastic pitching.  Albers walked Wieters and then gave up a bomb of a HR to Betemit.  Sox 4-1.

As for the Sox offense there was not a lot last night to speak of.  Matsuz looked great for the O’s.  Matusz pitched 6.1 innings and only allowed two hits.  He at times made many of the Sox batters just look silly and his curveball just looked amazing.  The only damage that the Sox could get against him was with the return of Kevin Youkilis.  In the 4th inning, Youk hit a solo HR to give the Sox their only run of the game.  Following Matusz, the O’s relief pitching of O’Day, Strop and Johnson put up zeros as well.  Johnson got his 16th save of the season.

Red Sox lost.  Yankees won.  We’re back in the basement and back below 500.
