The Red Sox looked to Felix Doubront to put a stop to the skid that has started the Red Sox season. It was starting to have a very eerie feeling of 2011. Doubront came out like gangbusters in spring training and all of Red Sox Nation hoped he would do the same in his first start of the season.

Doubront did just that. Doubront pitched 5 innings, allowing 4 hits and 2 runs. Douby also struck out 6 batters and retired Jose Bautista every time he came to the plate. The two runs came in the 3rd when Salty didn’t cover the plate as one would like and Rasmus came home. Upon replay, I happen to believe that Salty tagged him out before Rasmus touched the plate, but well…what can you do. That was followed by a single to score the second run. That was all the damage that Doubront would see. I happen to believe that Doubront is just going to get better and better as the season goes on. It’ll be exciting to see. Atchison came out of the bullpen relief of Doubront in the 6th inning and pitch 3 innings of scoreless relief, allowing only one hit and striking out three.
The Red Sox bats were pretty quiet until the 6th when Dustin Pedroia hit his first homerun of the season to bring the Sox within one run. In the 9th, the Jays closer Santos came to the mound and the Sox went to work. Once again, Pedey got things started with a leadoff double. If he’s not the core of this team, I don’t know who is. Pedey got to 3rd on a passed ball and then Gonzo brought him home with a sac fly. Papi walked. Cody Ross walked. DMac was in to run for Papi. Then, Ryan Sweeney came to the plate with two outs. Sweeney played the hero with a single to right field and DMac just barely made it in home to give the Sox a 3-2 lead. Cody Ross came home on another wild pitch from closer Santos. Sox lead 4-2.
Alfredo Aceves came into the game, high socks and all, with another chance to get his first save of the season. Aceves had a quick 1-2-3 inning and looked like that pitcher we knew and loved last season. The Red Sox got their first win of the season and the water tasted very dirty.
