The Sox and the Cubs have been in the middle of negotiations about compensation for Theo Epstein so that he could leave the Sox and join the Cubs. Every 10 seconds there seemed to be a new report. “The deal is done.” “There is a snag and talks have stopped.” Etc.
Well, it is official…the deal is done. Theo Epstein has resigned as the Red Sox General Manager in order to take a position of President of Baseball Operations for the Chicago Cubs. The terms of the compensation will be done in the short term, but parameters are in place.
Both the Sox and the Cubs will have press conferences to announce the changes on October 25th which is the next off day in the World Series schedule.
So long Theo! I long believed in the “In Theo We Trust” mentality, so I am sad to see him go, however with Cherington stepping in, I like it is the devil we know instead of the devil we don’t. Theo has his work cut out for him with the Cubs, but if he is able to put together a championship team, he’d be the one guy who could break two curses. Best of luck to him and we’ll be seeing him in Interleague Play!
