Sox Blast By Blue Jays 14-0!

Jon Lester and the Red Sox offense helped put some of the concerns of fans to rest in last night’s romp of the Jays.  The Sox just dominated the Jays in every way possible.  It was what we needed to take our minds of Josh Beckett and his wonky ankle.

The Sox got some runs on the board before Jon Lester ever took the mound.  Ellsbury got a leadoff double and then Gonzalez hit an RBI double to score Ells.  Youkilis walked and then Ortiz hit an RBI single to score Gonzo.  Scutaro got an RBI single to score Youkilis and then Crawford got an RBI double to score Papi.  Sox lead 4-0.  In the 2nd inning, the Sox added two more runs with a Gonzo RBI single and a Youk RBI double.  Sox lead 6-0.  In the 3rd inning, the Sox added two more runs with a Salty HR.  Sox lead 8-0.  In the 4th, the Sox added on three more runs.  Youk hit a single and was knocked in by a Ortiz RBI double.  Scoots hit another RBI double followed by a Darnell McDonald single.  Sox lead 11-0.  Wowza.  No wait, we are not done yet.  In the 5th inning, the Sox added on two more runs.  Marco Scutaro was having himself quite the night at the plate.  He hit an RBI double to score Gonzo and Papi.  Sox lead 13-0.  In the 6th & 7th, the Sox didn’t score any runs.  Slackers.  In the 8th though, the Sox put another run on the board when Josh Reddick, who was in for Jacoby Ellsbury, hit his 7th HR for the season.  Sox lead 14-0.  Every single starter had a hit EXCEPT Dustin Pedroia.  I’m sure he’s gonna get some trash talking heading his way for that.  Gonzo went 3 for 5, Papi went 4 for 6 and Scutaro went 4 for 5.  It was just an OFFENSIVE night all around.

I haven’t even mentioned Jonny Lester yet either.  He was just cruising through the Blue Jays lineup, mowing them down left and right.  While the Sox offense was just beating up on the Blue Jays pitching, Lester wasn’t allowing anything to cross the plate for the Jays.  Lester threw 100 pitches and his pitching line was 7 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB and 11 Ks.  Yes, I said ELEVEN strikeouts.  He was just ON FIRE.  Kyle Weiland came out in relief in the 8th inning.  His last start for the Sox did not go so well, but he looked pretty good last night.  Ryan Lavarnway replaced Saltalamacchia as catcher, so Weiland had a familiar guy behind the dish.  Weiland pitched two scoreless innings to end the game.

Another tid bit, Nate Spears came into the game for Crawford for his major league debut, so congrats Spears!  He didn’t get a hit, but it’s only a matter of time.
