Erik Bedard once again took the mound hoping to get his first win wearing a Sox uniform. This time it was against the HOT Texas Rangers team in the HOT Texas sun. Bedard would have to wait for another day for his first win since he was up against the Red Sox killer, CJ Wilson.
Bedard and Wilson were in the middle of a little bit of a pitchers’ duel up until the 3rd inning when the Rangers scored a run. That run was a wee bit controversial since the ump ruled that a catch by Josh Reddick was not a catch, but that he trapped the ball in his glove after it hit the ground. The replay clearly showed that Reddick caught the ball and once he caught it, he made a throw to first base which would have double the runner on second. So, the inning would have been over with no run scoring.
Bedard kept trucking through all the while the Red Sox bats could get nothing done against CJ Wilson. We got a hit here or there, but couldn’t string anything together. In the 6th inning, the Rangers truly got to Bedard. Hamilton and Young both hit singles and then Mike Napoli hit a 3 run homerun to have the Rangers leading 4-0. Bedard got the final out of the inning, but the damage had been done. With how Wilson had been pitching for the Rangers, that kind of lead just seemed insurmountable for the Sox. Matt Albers came out and pitched the 7th inning for the Sox. He had a scoreless inning, just barely. Albers a double and 2 walks to load the bases with 2 outs before finally getting Michael Young to fly out to end the inning. I don’t know what is going on with Matt Albers, but well…FIX IT! Franklin Morales came out and pitched a nice 1-2-3 8th inning.
The Red Sox bats only got 4 hits on the night by Gonzalez, Pedroia, Lowrie and Crawford. New kiddo Lavarnway did walk twice during his at bats. However, the Sox could never get their hits in bunches and have anything to show for them.
Red Sox 0 Rangers 4 BOXSCORE
WP: Wilson (13-5)
LP: Bedard (4-9)
