Sox ROCK the Cubs!

I was at the game tonight to take in the first interleague game of 2011 for the Red Sox.  This is the first time that the Cubbies have been back to Fenway Park since the WS in 1918.  As I was heading to the park, I noticed there were tons of Cubs fans all around.  I actually think it’s pretty cool seeing how far Cubbies fans have traveled to see the games at the Fens.  The Cubbies fans were loud too….at least for the beginning innings of the game.  It was great to see another passionate fanbase sitting alongside us at the park.

Jon Lester took the mound and let’s be honest, he didn’t have his best stuff.  He never seemed to get on a roll and it looked like a lot of his pitches just weren’t working tonight.  He pitched 6 innings and had a pitching line of TWELVE hits, 5 R, 2 BB and 5 Ks.  Lester giving up 12 hits was a career high.  The good news is that with those 12 hits, he “only” allowed 5 runs to score.  Lester gave way to Atchison who pitched 3 scoreless innings to finish off the game.

And it would be an understatement to say that the offense had Lester’s back!  The Sox scored FIFTEEN runs in total during the game.  We definitely didn’t have any problems with RISP tonight.  Both Youk and Salty homered over the Monster.  Youk’s homer was crushed and I’m not sure it’s fallen yet.  LOL.  The Sox also played some small ball as well.  In total, the Sox got 19 hits and just destroyed the Cubs pitching from starting pitcher Doug Davis through the bullpen.

Side Note:  Both the Yankees and the Rays lost tonight.  So, we are officially in 2nd place in the AL East and just a 1/2 game back from the Rays.  Sure, we had a slow start….but WHOO HOO…we are right in it!
