Before the game last night, the Red Sox had their first official TweetUp. What is a TweetUp you ask me?? Well…it’s when a bunch of people on twitter who also follow the Red Sox come together before the game and hang out. It was last night at 4:30pm at The Bleacher Bar which is right on Lansdowne Street and can look into center field of Fenway Park. I was late for the TweetUp because I’m a genius and I locked my keys in my car. When I got there, the event was in full swing.
I live in Upstate NY and not many people who live near or around me love the Sox as much as I do. We have Sox fans, but not the same level of die hard that you find all around Boston. So, for me twitter has connected me with other people who love the Sox just as much as I do. For the past 2 years, most times when I am going to games…I am going with friends I have met on twitter. We go to early batting practice on the Green Monster, then we hang out by the bullpen and wait for the pitcher and catchers to show up, then we go to our seat and enjoy everything about a game at Fenway. I’ve really made some amazing friends through my love of the Red Sox and twitter.
It was cool to also meet some people I hadn’t had the chance to meet yet…outside of twitter. We all spend the games that we aren’t at Fenway live tweeting the games at home, so it was cool to put a face to some of those people. It was a rockin’ good time. The Red Sox gave away a lot of prizes and the event was emceed by the lovely Heidi Watney of NESN. I got my picture taken with her and talked with her for a little while, she couldn’t be a nicer, sweeter person if she tried.
I think it’s pretty cool that the Red Sox did this because in reality…they didn’t have to. It’s not like they needed to do it to sell tickets or get people talking about the Sox. They did it just to support those who follow the Red Sox on twitter. If you are on twitter, do make sure you follow the official RedSox twitter account. They give out great information and if you are at the game, they give out some great prizes with their #TweetYourSeat program.
Let’s Go Red Sox! Let’s Go Twitter!
