The Red Sox needed John Lackey to pitch deep into the game today to rest the overworked bullpen. That didn’t happen. Lackey left in the 5th after giving up eight earned runs on ten hits. The two pitches called up today (Atchison and Hill) finished out the game.
The Red Sox offense was shutout. Ortiz was the lone bright spot with three hits in the game.
