John Lackey will take the mound for the Red Sox tonight as the team begins their West Coast road trip. (I’ll be at the game and posting some updates later today). The Sox skipped Lackey’s last start because of bad weather and to give him a chance to get things worked out against a team he has had success against in the past.
Lackey has a career record of 17-5 with an ERA of 2.90 against the Athletics, and A’s batters have hit just .238 against him. He is 8-4 in his career when pitching at Oakland Coliseum with batters hitting just .223 against him. The large amount of foul ball territory and some familiar AL West batters may be just what he needs to get his season back on track. Dice-K came through yesterday, today it’s Lackey’s turn.
