Jon Lester cruised through the first inning and struck out two of the first three batters he faced. His night continued to go well as he put goose eggs up on the board until the 5th inning. With one out in the inning the Rays hit three consecutive singles and then New Hampshire resident Sam Flud drove in a run on a weak grounder to first that Adrian Gonazlez struggled to get a good grip on. Damon then singled up the middle to drive in two more runs. Lester then got out of the inning with a double play ball and pitched a scoreless sixth and seventh. Bard well in the eighth and Jenks pitched a perfect ninth.
Tito played many bench players to go with as many lefties as possible against Ray’s ace David Price. D-Mac was the only one who could do much against him and hit a homer into the monster seats in the third. Lowrie had two hits in the game and drove in the second run.
In the bottom of the ninth the Sox went with three pinch hitters. Ellsbury and Drew both struck out, Ortiz drove a ball to right but it didn’t have the distance to tie up the game. The Red Sox now how last place all to themselves.
