Book Review: Remembering Fenway Park

Book Review: Remembering Fenway ParkAs we near the 100 year anniversary of Fenway Park in 2012 there will be plenty of books to commemorate the event, all will be hard pressed to beat Harvey Frommer’s Remembering Fenway Park: An Oral and Narrative History of the Home of the Boston Red Sox.  The first thing you notice about the book is its beautiful layout with classic or rare photos on every page, some covering two pages.  But this is more than a coffee table book; the chapters are set up by decade and highlight magic moments at the Fens with things like the Red Sox lineup for the first game to Bill Lee’s memory of Tom Yawkey stealing his National Geographic magazines from his Fenway mailbox.

Frommer has put together a great history of Fenway Park as told by a wide array of people involved in the park’s unique history. There are memories from players, broadcasters, bishops, reporters, fans and more including a foreward by Johnny Pesky.  He covers every angle and event that has made Fenway such a special place.  This book is a must have for every Red Sox fan, get it now so you will be ready for the 100th birthday of America’s most beloved ballpark.  I have perhaps the biggest Red Sox baseball book library west of the Mississippi and this book may be the best in the collection.
