BecKKKKKKKKKKett Delivers
Josh Beckett turned back the clock to 2007 tonight and utterly dominated the Yankees.  He had an angry look on his face when he climbed  the mound and took Pedroia’s “we have to pitch better” comment to heart.  He struck out 10 in 8 innings and only had 4 base-runners (2 hits, a walk, and a bean ball to Martin).  Francona opted to take him out after the 8th even though he could have come back out to try for a complete game.

The Sox offense didn’t have trouble getting on against Yankee ace C.C. Sabathia but they did have trouble scoring runs.  Mike Cameron drove in Dustin Pedroia with two outs in the third for the first run of the game on an infield single.  The hit proved to be the only run the Red Sox could score off of Sabathia who gave up 9 hits and walked 4 in 5 2/3 innings, he somehow escaped multiple tough situations.

Marco Scutaro padded the lead with a bases loaded double that scored two in the bottom of the seventh.  Ortiz drove in the final run for the Sox in the top of the ninth with a bomb that bounced off of the top of the wall at the 420 ft mark in the triangle.  It missed a homer by about a foot but did bring Youk around to score.

Papelbon came in to pitch a perfect 9th and ended the game with a backwards K of Mark Teixeira.  Tex continued to argue the call with the ump as Dirty Water basted on the Fenway PA.
