The Red Sox beat the Twins today 5-0 to take 2-1 lead in the Mayor’s Cup. Jon Lester took the mound and pitched two innings. He got 1 K, 1 H and 1 BB. All in all…it was a pretty good start. Alfredo Aceves also made his debut with the Sox pitching two innings and only allowing one hit. I have to say, it’s gonna take me a while to not think Yankees when I hear Aceves….he pitched well. Papelbon pitched a 1-2-3 inning which took all of 6 pitches. Williams and Hill also both pitched a scoreless inning a piece. Tony Pena Jr took the mound in the 9th…gave up a hit and walk and almost had the bases loaded against him, but got out of it unscathed with some great defense against him.
Dlugach left the game after making a diving catch at 3B. Reports are it is a slightly seperated shoulder. Dlugach has had a rough spring training…first he is plunked by Jenks and now he leaves the field injured. Poor guy. The Sox got their first run on a Reddick sac fly in the 2nd inning. Jed Lowrie got a hit and an RBI in the 5th. And then in the 8th and 9th innings, the Sox kept adding on to seal the deal. Sox minor leaguers Hoover, Lineras and Spears all had RBIs.
Also…Bogar sent two people from 3B to score today…both of them made it. So…*crossing fingers*
All in all…it was a good game to listen to this afternoon on the radio.
SOX WIN 5-0.
