The Mayor’s Cup race is now even after a split of the first two meetings between the Red Sox and Twins. Dice-K started the game for Boston and had a respectable outing aside from giving up one hit (HR) in two innings. Wake came on in relief and also gave up a homer. The Sox rallied back in the bottom of the third when Ells singled and Pedroia walked and Papi drove them both in with his first homer of spring.
The reserves came in and scored two more runs in the sixth and two in the seventh to put the Sox ahead for good.
Other items of note in the game: Carl Crawford was 0-3 in his Red Sox debut, Josh Reddick hit a homer, and Andrew Miller looked very good striking out 2 of the 3 batters he faced. Josh Beckett had a mild concussion from the fly ball incident and may miss his next start.
Red Sox WIn 7-6 BOX SCORE
