Tim Wakefield cruised through 5 and 2/3 innings before he ran into some trouble. When he fell behind 3-0 in the count to Billy Butler he decided to grove a 75 mph fastball and the results were not good. The next batter also went yard and all of the sudden it was a 1-run game.
Oki and Bard combined to give up the lead and spoil Wake’s good start.
A couple of items of note from tonight’s game: Ortiz had a hit early in the game going opposite field against the shift. He was ejected later for arguing a third strike call. J.D. Drew broke out of his slump with a 2-run homer in the game. V-Mart was the only starter who did not reach base.
