I wasn’t able to get tickets to Opening Day, but I did have tickets to Game 2 at Fenway verses the New York Yankees. I headed off to Fenway from NY…about 2:30pm. I went with my friend, who happens to be a Yankees fan (We all have flaws now don’t we!). We got to Fenway about 5:30pm…and immediately went into the park.
Of course, we know that the game did not go the Sox’s way. Of course, I wanna see the boys always win, but I enjoy being at Fenway and watching the game…no matter the result. It was a hotly contested game and all.
Here are my highlights from the game:
1. When I first got there…my friend saw that the Yanks were doing batting practice, so she hung out there hoping to meet some of them. I went to go meet up with one adorable Twitter friend…and as I came up from behind home plate, who do I run into…Theo Epstein. Theo was on the phone…so, I turned around to be sure it was him. He was tugging on a door…that probably led to incredibly important places. It was obvious he was locked out. He got off the phone, so I turned around and walked by him again. I was kind of surprised no one else recognized him. I smiled at him and said, “Pretty gutsy just walking around here…” Theo smiled and said back, “Yeah, I don’t know who you have to know to get a door opened around here.” I laughed…wished him luck and told him to take care and continued on. He tugged on the door a little more…and finally someone opened it for him and he went in. So, I can now say I have had a conversation with Theo Epstein…no matter how short, silly and pointless. I should have chanted NO TRADE CLAY as I walked away…hindsight and all.
2. This picture. I love it. VMart and Tek came out and hung out together by the bullpen before Lester came out. They were just chatting back and forth…and both looked so comfortable and happy. It was really nice to see.
3. My rant against THE WAVE. I’ve said it before…you’ll probably here me say it again. I can’t stand The Wave. You could say I HATE The Wave. If you buy a ticket to come see a game…then maybe you should pay attention to the game and not doing The Wave. If you are a kid…fine…you can do The Wave. Everyone else? Unacceptable. If the game is a blowout in one direction or another. It still annoys me, but fine…good ahead…do The Wave. Last night, the crowd at Fenway did The Wave for about 3 minutes straight. When did they start and do The Wave? Well…right when Oki was up there on the mound battling and trying to get himself out of trouble. They are doing The Wave while Oki ends up walking in the Go Ahead run. The Wave. Ugh. If you like The Wave…that’s your perogative, but I hate The Wave and last night just proved to me why. Fail.
4. I rocked my JD Drew shirt last night. However, JD did not show me the love back. He went 0 for 4. Sad Face. I’m still a Drew fan, however I much prefer it when he is a hitting machine.
5. Papi. Yes, Papi is 0 for 7. I got sad every time he came up to bat and it says his average is 0.000 on the scoreboard. However, do I think that PROVES he is slumping again and he is obviously done? Umm. No. It’s TWO GAMES. It’s 7 At Bats. I’d prefer he have at least a hit here or there, but I am not gonna sum up Papi’s 2010 year at the end of Game 2. As Papi reminded us in his post game press conference…I do believe we have 160 more games to play.
6. VMart. Isn’t he getting off to a great start? I do think anyone who still thinks that Tek should be the everyday catcher needs to have their head examined. I love Tek. I will always LOVE Tek…however, each and every night, I want VMart in the lineup and behind the plate. He’s been a joy to watch.
I think that is all my brain can function…since I did have to drive home to NY after the game. I rolled into my driveway at 3am. My alarm went off at 6am. So, I might be a hurting unit today…but of course not hurting enough to not watch tonight’s game.
Go Lackey! Go Red Sox!
P.S. I posted some pictures I took of the Lester and VMart on twitpic. Check them out.
