It started off so well; Lester retired the Yanks in order in the first, Ells led off with a base hit and reached third on an error. Youk drove him in on a sac fly and the Red Sox had a 1-0 lead. The Yanks tied it up in the second, but V-Mart put the Sox back on top with a 2-run homer in the third. The Yankees got to Lester in the fifth and scored three runs in the inning. The Red Sox tied the game up in the bottom of the inning with an RBI off of the monster by V-Mart.
Manny Delcarmen came in for the sixth and looked bad but was able to keep the Yankees from scoring with an inning ending double play. Bard pitched well in the top of the seventh keeping the game tied at 4-4. Youk led off the bottom of the inning with a single and advanced to second when Marte made a bad throw over to first. Ortiz(0-4), Beltre, and Drew(o-4) could not get a hit to send him home.
Okajima gave up a couple of hits and induced a ground ball to Scutaro which he fielded cleanly but double pumped and threw it in the dirt to Youk making the bases loaded. Oki then threw three straight balls and after groving a strike, walked in a run.
Atchison gave up a homer to Cano in the 9th as an insurance run. Mo came in for the Yanks and shut down the Red Sox after giving up a hit to Scutaro. He utterly dominated Ellsbury and showed that he still has the stuff that made him the best closer in the history of the game.
