In the battle for the fifth spot in the rotation, Tim Wakefield pulled ahead of Clay Buchholz today. Buchholz struggled in his first two innings of spring. He gave up three runs on five hits including a homer and walked two batters. It is very early in spring training an starts like this one do not matter much, but unlike Lester, who is guaranteed a spot in the rotation, Buchholz is competing for a spot with Wakefield who pitched two shutout innings in his first appearance of spring.
