The Red Sox will soon announce a one-year $9 million deal with closer Jonathan Papelbon according to WEEI’s Rob Bradford:
Jonathan Papelbon has a one-year deal in place with the Red Sox that would be in the neighborhood of $9 million. (Update: The deal is for $9.35 million.) There may be an announcement that numbers are being exchanged, but it looks as if a deal is going to get done.
Papelbon is trying to get closer salaries in line with those of starters, this comes close. With the signing Theo will once again avoid an arbitration hearing.
