Yency Almonte Interviews with AngelsWin.com

Interview conducted by Rick Dykhuizen, AngelsWin.com Contributor

Imagine going from one of the tallest, advanced, and capable players on your high school team to one of the youngest in your league of professional hitters. Now imagine doing that while still in your third year of being a full-time pitcher.

That’s the challenge facing Angels pitcher Yency Almonte. Drafted in the 17th round of the 2012 draft, Yency is still adjusting to being a starting pitcher. Last year he logged all of 3.0 professional innings. This year, he is up to 41.0.

The Angels believe in Yency, his mid-90s fastball, slider, and changeup–so much so that they gave him the start for the Owlz in their home opener. They will take it slow with this 19 year old (birthday 6/4/94), but he is another one to keep an eye on down on the farm.
