November 1st. Luckily, I didn’t play the Halloween 2014 drinking game, where you take a shot every time you see an Elsa. Because I would have taken 42 fucking shots. I’m so glad I have two sons and have never seen Frozen. Nothing but Batman and Lego Movie for us.
More importantly, the putrid month of October is over. With more injuries to the defense than active cases of Ebola in the US, the Bruins were lucky to escape with a 6-6-0 record. For the past few years, the Bruins have absolutely owned November. No, past results are not indicative of future performance, but it’s a nice trend the Bruins obviously hope to continue.
If they want to break the .500 barrier for the first time since opening night, they’ll have to get past the Ottawa Karlssons.
My reverence for all things Swedish is well documented on this site, and Erik Karlsson is no different. He’s a Norris trophy winner, no matter what Jack Edwards says, and is one of the few players with an actual personality. Point all you want to his plus/minus, and then I’ll point at you and call you a moron for bringing up a stupid stat like plus/minus.
The key to today’s game is discipline. If the Bruins are spending time in the box, then Karlsson will murder them on the man advantage.
In the next 5 games, the Bruins face the Senators, Panthers, Oilers, Devils, and Maple Leafs. If there’s a time to build some confidence and momentum, it’s now. With a young defense and a forward corps in need of chemistry building, a couple of squashes are just what they need.
