9/30 Game 2 Recap: Anderson Ends his Season as he Started

am2

Player of the Game

Cody Anderson did a great job tonight, giving the Indians the type of start they were expecting earlier from Carlos Carrasco (sans strike outs). He threw seven shut out innings, allowing just two hits and four walks with two K’s. This was his final appearance of the year and with the win, he finishes his rookie campaign at 7-3 with a 3.05 ERA, an extremely impressive debut.

Francisco Lindor was almost as integral in this Tribe win, knocking in two and scoring two runs as he hit his 12th home run of the season.

Feathers Up

The Indians scored more in the second inning tonight than they did in the entire day game as most of the lineup contributed to a four run inning. Abraham Almonte started it off with a lead-off double, then scored on a Michael Martinez single. Martinez went to second on the throw home, then scored on a two out, Jose Ramirez double. Ramirez moved to third on an infield hit by Lindor that was challenged and maintained, then scored on a wild pitch. With Lindor now on second, Carlos Santana brought him home with a single up the middle. He ended the inning as well when he was caught stealing second for the third out.

Milestone Alert: Jason Kipnis was safe on an error to lead off the fourth, then stole second for his 12th of the season. This was his 100th steal in his career and he is the 24th Indians player to reach that plateau. Making it count, Lindor added to his Rookie of the Year resume by knocking him in with an opposite field home run to right.

In an odd turn of events, Twins reliever Ricky Nolasco intentionally walked Jason Kipnis with Almonte on second and two outs. After a ball, Jose Ramirez crushed the first strike he saw well out to right for a three run home run, making it a 10-1 game. Ramirez watched the shot and flipped his bat in front of the Twins dugout which didn’t sit well with Minnesota, but was well deserved after the intentional walk.

Feathers Down

Zach McAllister gave up a solo home run to one of Lindor’s two primary competitors for the Rookie of the Year award, Miguel Sano in his otherwise scoreless eighth inning. The game was essentially already out of reach by this time, however, as the Indians still held a six run lead. Austin Adams also gave up a solo home run in the ninth to another rookie, Eddie Rosario.

Final Score: Cleveland Indians 10 – Minnesota Twins 2

On Deck: Trevor Bauer will return to the Indians rotation tomorrow for the final time this season. He and the Indians will finish up their four game series with Minnesota at 7:10 PM, October 1st. The Twins will continue their late push for the second Wild Card with the rookie Tyler Duffey on the mound.
