Welcome To Cleveland, Mr. Lindor!

The day has finally come, the day every Indians fan has been waiting for since the season began. That’s right, Francisco Lindor has finally been promoted from Columbus to the Cleveland Indians and is set to join to the team tomorrow for the rubber match game in Detroit!

Lindor, the Indians’ top prospect since the first Bush was President, joins an impressive list of big name prospects that have been called up to the bigs this season including, Kris Bryant, Carlos Correa, and Joey Gallo. Much has been made of the reason(s) why Lindor wasn’t called up earlier, with most speculation surrounding the Super 2 deadline and the Indians unwillingness to pay for an extra year of arbitration. Despite what the Indians claim, I believe that played heavily into the decision making process even though it will never be admitted.

Another reason that had been put forth was the fact that Lindor just hadn’t looked that good this season, and that was true to an extent.Lindor began the season in a bit of a slump offensively and it wasn’t until recently that he had really begun to put things together at the plate culminating in the International League Player of the Week award this past week. For the season Lindor is slashing .279/.346/.398 with 2 home runs and 8 stolen bases (to go along with 7 times caught stealing). Over the past week Lindor has been on fire hitting .423 with 11 hits, 6 runs, 1 2B, 2 3B, 1 HR, and 2 RBI. My guess is that this recent hot steak, coupled with the passing of the Super 2 deadline is what convinced the Indians to finally call up their top prospect.

Long lauded for his defensive prowess, Lindor brings a level of defensive ability that Indians fans haven’t seen since Omar Vizquel. Combine that with Giovanny Ursula’s recent promotion and the Indians have a defensive pairing on the left side of the infield that can rival any team in the league for years to come.
