Jose Ramirez has been demoted to AAA Columbus. This move came following a 7-3 loss at the hands of the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday, June 7.

Jose Ramirez has played well below average this season, posting a slash line of .180/.247/.240 as well as a fielding percentage of .948%

Many people throughout Cleveland have been calling for the demotion of Ramirez, due to his inability to hit, and his lackluster defense as well.

This could open the door for the Indians to call up top prospect Francisco Lindor in place of Jose Ramirez at the shortstop position. This season in AAA Columbus, Lindor has posted a slash line of .269/.342/.393 and a fielding percentage of .962.

The other option to replace Jose Ramirez on the 25-man roster would be short stop Zach Walters.

Walters has spent seven games in Cleveland this season, going 1-17 at the plate with two errors in ten chances, with both errors coming at third base.

The Indians have not announced any corresponding moves to the Ramirez demotion.

We will have more on this story as it develops.

Editors Note: According to Ken Rosenthal on twitter, it will be Zach Walters, not Francisco Lindor who will be brought up for Tuesday’s game:

Second Editors Note: The Indians made both the Walters for Ramirez move and a second move official later in the evening.
