Player of the Game
There were several competitors for the Player of the Game today, but with a near perfect performance, Justin Masterson blew out the competition. Masterson gave up just one hit, and it did not come until the 7th inning. In his 7-inning outing, Masterson struck out 8 Twins, hit a batter, and gave up just the one hit. He did give up one run, but it can be disputed whether that run was earned or not.
Feathers Up
Milestone Alert: With a run scored today, Asdrubal Cabrera is now in the Indians Top-50 for career runs scored, tied with Brett Butler.
The offense came out swinging today, with most of the line up contributing to today’s offensive success. The first run was scored on a Mike Aviles sacrifice fly. Jason Kipnis went yard for his 2nd straight game, knocking in 2 runs in the 3rd inning. A walk and a couple singles in the 5th inning set up a bases-clearing triple for Michael Brantley.
Feathers Down
Another defensive miscue cost Justin Masterson his shutout. His no-hitter attempt ended in the 2nd when he gave up a lead-off double to Brian Dozier. Masterson still had his scoreless outing under control until Jason Kipnis botched a routine ground ball, allowing Dozier to score.
Final Score: Cleveland Indians 7 – Minnesota Twins 0
