With the NFL Draft starting later tonight, I figure it’s time to file my final two round mock draft. As with the other two mocks, I won’t predict any trades since I want to try and keep my sanity. While this probably won’t be perfect due to the inevitable trades, I do think this is what teams are looking to target. For a refresher on the previous mocks be sure to check out mock 2.0 and mock 1.0.
Round 1
1) Tampa Bay – Jameis Winston, QB, Florida State: While some are toying with the idea of Tampa taking Mariota here, I’m still convinced Winston is the choice for the Buccaneers here.
2) Tennessee – Marcus Mariota, QB, Oregon: Mariota will go second in this year’s draft, but will it be to Tennessee? Cleveland and Philadelphia are a couple teams rumored to be trying to move up to take Mariota, but I’m not sure they have quite enough ammo to pull it off.
3) Jacksonville – Dante Fowler Jr, DE/OLB, Florida: I’d be very surprised if Jacksonville goes in a direction other than Fowler.
4) Oakland – Leonard Williams, DE/DT, USC: In earlier years I could see the Raiders taking Kevin White or Amari Cooper here, but I think they’ve learned their lesson and will go with the safe pick to bolster their defense.
5) Washington – Vic Beasley, DE/OLB, Clemson: With Brian Orakpo gone, Washington needs another edge rusher. Beasley likely won’t slip past Washington here. Then again Dan Snyder is terrible so he could find a way to screw this up.
6) New York Jets – Amari Cooper, WR, Alabama: This pick is the one in the Top-10 which I have changed the most. First Beasley, then Shane Ray, and now Cooper. While the Jets don’t have anything resembling a quarterback, they can at least try to give whatever question mark they put out there some weapons.
7) Chicago – Kevin White, WR, West Virginia: The Bears could really use some defensive help, but I have a feeling it is going to be very hard for them to pass up the West Virginia wide receiver if he ends up being available here.
8) Atlanta – Bud Dupree, DE/OLB, Kentucky: With the recent arrest of Shane Ray this should make the decision on whether to pick Dupree or Ray a whole lot easier. There has been chatter of the Falcons taking Todd Gurley here, but a running back coming off a torn ACL is hard to justify taking this high.
9) New York Giants – Brandon Scherff, OT, Iowa: Since my first mock draft I have had Scherff going to the Giants here. The only way I see it being different is if White falls and the Giants can field a scary combo with Odell Beckham Jr and White.
10) St. Louis – Andrus Peat, OT, Stanford: Since Cooper went to the Jets earlier in this mock, it forced me to change this pick. Peat has moved up in each of my mocks and for the final one takes the biggest jump from 19th to 10th.
11) Minnesota – Devante Parker, WR, Louisville: I still think Parker is the target for Minnesota, mostly for his time playing with Teddy Bridgewater at Louisville, which saw the duo post some huge numbers.
12) Cleveland – Danny Shelton, DT, Washington: The Browns finally do something smart in a draft and take the interior defensive lineman from Washington.
13) New Orleans – Trae Waynes, CB, Michigan State: Another pick I have changed in each of the three mock drafts, but I feel confident the Saints will take Waynes. With receivers in the division like Julio Jones, Roddy White, Kelvin Benjamin, and Mike Evans, the Saints could some reinforcements in the secondary.
14) Miami – Todd Gurley, RB, Georgia: Personally I don’t like taking a running back this high, let alone a running back coming off a knee injury. Thankfully it isn’t the Bills making this pick, so I’m all for Miami doing something stupid.
15) San Francisco – Kevin Johnson, CB, Wake Forest: The 49ers have so many needs on defense, which made it hard to pinpoint who they might have high on their radar. They need linebackers, but I don’t think they want the baggage Gregory or Ray have. Johnson seems like the safe pick, even if it is a little high.
16) Houston – Arik Armstead, DE/DT, Oregon: With Gurley gone and Jaelen Strong having injury concerns, Houston’s pick is another I’m all over the place on. Sure the Texans don’t need defensive line help, but for some reason I think they’ll end up taking Armstead.
17) San Diego – Melvin Gordon, RB, Wisconsin: We’re back to Melvin Gordon being taken by the Chargers here. It looks like Rivers is staying in San Diego so now it’s time to bolster the running game around him with a home run hitter like Gordon.
18) Kansas City – D.J. Humphries, OT, Florida: Had I created this a couple days ago I probably would’ve had La’el Collins here, but with the legal questions he has it sounds as if many teams are taking him off their draft boards.
19) Cleveland – Breshad Perriman, WR, Central Florida: Offensive lineman aren’t quite as plentiful at this position as in previous mocks, so I have the Browns shifting gears to try and add to a wide receiving corps which leaves a lot to be desired.
20) Philadelphia – Byron Jones, CB, Connecticut: I still have the Eagles taking a cornerback here, but I have shifted who I think the corner will be. I have a feeling Chip Kelly will be intrigued by Jones’ freakish performance at the combine.
21) Cincinnati – Ereck Flowers, OT, Miami (FL): Each mock I’ve done in the next one the tackle I previously had the Bengals taking has been off the board. In this one, both tackles I had in the previous two are gone, but this time I have them getting one which was gone before they picked in the first two mocks.
22) Pittsburgh – Randy Gregory, OLB, Nebraska: The Steelers taking Gregory here would be such a Steelers pick. They ignore the baggage Gregory has, thinking he can put it behind him. Still Gregory is a tremendous prospect and Pittsburgh should feel lucky he slipped this far.
23) Detroit – Malcolm Brown, DT, Texas: Unlike last mock, Gordon is gone so the Lions must shift their focus. In my first mock I had them taking Eddie Goldman, but I think Detroit has cooled on him, so this time they’ll target another defensive tackle with a lot of potential to try and fill the hole left by Ndamukong Suh.
24) Arizona – Eric Kendricks, LB, UCLA: Arizona takes a linebacker from UCLA, but not the same one I had them taking in my first mock. Kendricks has the look like he could be the captain of a defense, and I could see him leading Arizona’s defense for years to come.
25) Carolina – La’el Collins, OT, LSU: While there are tons of legal questions surrounding Collins, at some point somebody is going to draft the offensive lineman. Carolina seems like a good spot for Collins, as they need some offensive line help, and might be hard-pressed to pass up such a talent.
26) Baltimore – Phillip Dorsett, WR, Miami (FL): The biggest needs for Baltimore look like at running back and wide receiver. With the two clear-cut best options at running back gone, they turn their attention to wide receiver. Dorsett could be a good compliment for Steve Smith, especially with Torrey Smith now gone.
27) Dallas – Marcus Peters, CB, Washington: For some reason I still think the Cowboys throw caution to the wind and take Peters. Sure he has some off the field issues to be worried about, but Dallas doesn’t seem to worry about those quite as much.
28) Denver – T.J. Clemmings, OT, Pittsburgh: Why not give what is looking to be Peyton Manning’s last year in Denver a boost by taking a mean, nasty offensive lineman to protect him?
29) Indianapolis – Landon Collins, S, Alabama: Defensive is what Indianapolis needs, especially if they have designs on keeping up with New England in the AFC. Collins would immediately improve the secondary with his ball-hawking skills.
30) Green Bay – Jalen Collins, CB, LSU: With the Bears adding Kevin White and the Vikings picking Devante Parker (and the Lions already having Calvin Johnson), corner is definitely a need for the Packers
31) New Orleans – Eli Harold, DE/OLB, Virginia: With the earlier pick of Trae Waynes, now New Orleans further improves their defense by taking the rusher from Virginia. I was thinking they might take Maxx Williams to replace Jimmy Graham, but I’m thinking that is less of a possibility now.
32) New England – Eddie Goldman, DT, Florida State: New England finds their replacement for Vince Wilfork in the defensive tackle from Florida State.
Round 2
33) Tennessee – Eric Fisher, OT, Oregon
34) Tampa Bay – Cameron Erving, OT/G/C, Florida State
35) Oakland – Devin Smith, WR, Ohio State
36) Jacksonville – Jay Ajayi, RB, Boise State
37) New York Jets – Duke Johnson, RB, Miami (FL)
38) Washington – Damarious Randall, S, Arizona State
39) Chicago – Jordan Phillips, DT, Oklahoma
40) New York Giants – Ronald Darby, CB, Florida State
41) St. Louis – Dorial Green-Beckham, WR, Oklahoma
42) Atlanta – Maxx Williams, TE, Minnesota
43) Cleveland – Bernardrick McKinney, LB, Mississippi State
44) New Orleans – Nelson Agholor, WR, USC
45) Minnesota – Stephone Anthony, LB, Clemson
46) San Francisco – Denzel Perryman, LB, Miami (FL)
47) Miami – Jaelen Strong, WR, Arizona State
48) San Diego – Carl Davis, DT, Iowa
49) Kansas City – Sammie Coates, WR, Auburn
50) Buffalo – Laken Tomlinson, G, Duke: I’m back to the Bills taking the guard from Duke with this pick. It might not be the sexy pick, but I think it will be the right pick. I know the Bills are kicking around the idea of Bryce Petty, but I’m hoping they go a different route. Tomlinson would help out immensely in the running game, which will be highlighted this year with the acquisition of LeSean McCoy
51) Houston – P.J. Williams, CB, Florida State
52) Philadelphia – Cedric Ogbuehi, OT, Texas A&M
53) Cincinnati – Owamagbe Odighizuwa, DE/OLB, UCLA
54) Detroit – Ameer Abdullah, RB, Nebraska
55) Arizona – Tevin Coleman, RB, Indiana
56) Pittsburgh – Alex Carter, CB, Stanford
57) Florida State – Rashad Greene, WR, Florida State
58) Baltimore – T.J. Yeldon, RB, Alabama
59) Denver – Clive Walford, TE, Miami (FL)
60) Dallas – Mario Edwards Jr, DE, Florida State
61) Indianapolis – Paul Dawson, LB, TCU
62) Green Bay – Michael Bennett, DT, Ohio State
63) Seattle – Hroniss Grasu, C, Oregon
64) New England – Tre Jackson, G, Florida State
