Welcome to the ‘New and Improved’ State of Hockey News!

“Stranger now are his eyes to this mystery, He hears the silence so loud, crack of dawn, all is gone except the will to be, now they see what will be blinded eyes to see,” are classic lyrics from Metallica‘s For Whom the Bell Tolls which is a staple in most NHL arenas.  A new dawn is upon you and myself as I start a new chapter of this wild (no pun intended) ride we call life.  With that tiny little introduction, welcome to the new and improved State of Hockey News here on Bloguin.  First of all, who am I and what am I all about?

I am 32 years old and a Minnesota native now trapped in Wisconsin, who has been a hockey fan and been around the game of hockey my whole life.  I can still remember my first time on skates and having a blast playing pond hockey at the “Pit” in my hometown.  I grew up a fan of the Minnesota North Stars and Minnesota Golden Gophers and while the moving of the North Stars to Dallas hit me (and many other fans in Minnesota) very hard.  It was devastating to see them leave.  I grew up on stories about North Star heroes of the past like Gump Worsley, Bill Goldsworthy, as well as those of the St. Paul Fighting Saints for the World Hockey Association.  As a kid I idolized players like Paul Coffey, Wayne Gretzky as well as more local heroes like Neal Broten and Dino Ciccarelli.  When the NHL finally decided to award the State of Hockey another franchise in 1997 I was incredibly excited and have followed the Wild ever since they first dropped the puck in 2000.

Outside of my day job as a High School teacher I more or less eat, breathe and sleep the game of hockey.  I am proud subscriber of the Hockey News, and I enjoy reading about the game’s history in books such as Ross Bernstein‘s Frozen Memories, and the Boys of Winter by Phil Coffey.  I closely follow Minnesota High School, College hockey, Canadian major junior as well as the American Hockey League and of course the NHL to provide you the best insight I can.  Before I joined Bloguin, I have written for Most Valuable Network for the last 4 1/2 NHL seasons as well as being a member of numerous hockey-related message boards.  I pride myself on being able to provide objective in-depth game analysis that goes beyond just the statistics as well as hard-hitting editorials which cut to the core of the game.  I will provide you regular updates on not only the Wild, but college, high school and minor league hockey because as person who grew up in the State of Hockey we realize that it is narrow and short-sighted to just cover one league.  So get comfortable, take out a nice cool beverage, turn on the game and enjoy!  GAME ON!
