Unless something terrible happens in the next 2 weeks, like every UC player getting injured, the Cincinnati Bearcats are pretty much a lock to go back to the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2005. The Bearcats brought out the defense to beat the Marquette Golden Eagles, 67-60. The Bearcats improve to 23-7, 10-7, while Marquette is now 18-12, 9-8.
UC hit 50% of their shots from the field in the victory. Cashmere Wright had a great game, going for 15-5 assists. His 2 FGs of the second half came at huge moments. Yancy Gates threw up an 11-11 double double, and had 2 big blocks. The second came when Marquette was going for a layup down 5. Dion Dixon had 12 points and 3 steals, most in the first half, while Ibrahima Thomas had an inspired 12-7. Marquette was pretty much a 1 man show on offense, with Jimmy Butler going for 30 and 6 boards. Darius Johnson-Odom had 15 in the losing effort.
Big win. Huge win. Giant win. This was exactly the statement UC needed to make. There should be no problem with motivation the rest of the way. Up next is Senior day, and then the Big East tournament. After that, it’s playing in the NCAA tournament. I’m so fucking pumped. I love this team.
